It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our long-time friend, supporter, and ally, Christina McKelvie MSP.
Christina has been a consistent source of encouragement and strength to Hamilton Rugby Club over the years, and in particular throughout the past few years. Her unwavering support for our club, its values, and our ambitions has left a mark that will never be forgotten. From championing community initiatives to facilitating key meetings with organisations that helped shape the direction and future of the club, Christina was always there — not just as an MSP, but as a genuine friend who cared deeply about our success.
She truly understood the power of sport to bring people together, to inspire, and to create community. That understanding came from her own roots — as a young member of the Easterhouse running and athletics club. It was something she spoke about with real pride and joy, and her face would light up every time she recalled those early days. She knew firsthand what sport could do for a person, a family, and a neighbourhood — and she brought that passion to every conversation and every opportunity to support us.
Ian Smith, her long-time contact and friend at the club, shared these words:
"There was never anything that was too much and nothing ever got past her. No ask was ever too big when it came to helping the club. Christina and her team always tried to help in any way they could, every time we needed her."
Christina’s legacy will live on in the lives she touched, in the progress she helped us make, and in the spirit of community she believed in so strongly.
We are incredibly grateful for all that she gave to Hamilton Rugby Club. She will be deeply missed.
Our thoughts are with her loved ones and colleagues at this difficult time.
